Neuro-Ocular Release (NOR) with Richard Feely DO

Aeroparc Gilze-Rijen Koffie/thee, lunch & syllabus Engels

Day 1

A. Introduction

Neuro-Ocular Release (NOR) is an advanced, indirect Osteopathic manipulative procedure, that puts into play the ocular nervous system and it’s related CNS &PNS as described to deactivate entrainment, central facilitation (sensitization) and local somatic dysfunction for both active and latent tender points. By utilizing the neuro-ocular system in the manner described; the inhibition of the presynaptic primary afferents and postsynaptic inhibition at the spinal projections modulate pain and diminish SD. The Neuro-Ocular Release (NOR) is less time consuming provides a more complete treatment of SD, specifically, NOR functionally removes the spinal cord memory of SD, particularly important in recurrent neuromusculoskeletal pain.

B. Objectives:

1. To know and describe what Pain is.

2. To describe how Pain is transmitted and modulated.

3. To recognize and describe the 3 types of Pain.

4. To describe what NOR is and to experience it is effect upon oneself.

5. To describe how NOR works(details); + 1) activates/resets the PNS & spinothalamic tract + 2) activates/resets the CNS & corticospinal tract KEY “warm boot” the brain’s pain matrix – removing pain & SD.

C. Pain: Acute, Subacute, Chronic, Eudynia, Maldynia, Nociceptive, Neuropathic, Nociplastic

D. Pain pathways: ascending, descending.

E. Anatomy and physiology of pain: first, second, third order neurons, actions, visceral vs. somatic.

F. MINE system.

G. Biochemistry: neuro regulators, immunoregulators

H. Articulatory neurology: bioelectrical

I. Noxious stimuli: somatic, visceral, emotional

J. Traumatic: biomechanical, biopsychosocial

K. Neuroinflammation: biochemical, biopsychosocial

Richard A. Feely, D.O. is a Clinical Associate Professor at Midwestern U- CCOM who is in private practice. He is a board-certified physician in Family Medicine, Osteopathic Manipulation, Acupuncture, Independent Medical Examiner, Quality Assurance and Utilization Review. Dr. Feely is the President of Feely Center for Optimal Health specializing in neuromuscular pain using Osteopathic manipulation, acupuncture, and Chinese medicine to alleviate various medical and pain conditions. He has experience in educating Osteopathic students and residents in both the clinical and live/online didactic settings for OPP, OMM and integrative medicine. Osteopathically he is best known for discovering Neuro-Ocular Release (NOR) technique, teaching Cranial Osteopathy and Osteopathic leadership. He has served as president in the American Academy of Osteopathy, and Osteopathic Cranial Academy and lead two healthcare foundations: American Osteopathic Foundation, and the Osteopathic Cranial Academy Foundation. Dr. Feely has taught Osteopathy in North America, Europe, and Asia, including as a consultant to W.H.O. Recently, he has received the American Academy of Osteopathy’s lifetime achievement award; A.T. Still Medallion of Honor. Dr. Feely is the founder and President of, the premier online test preparation service for acupuncturist and herbalist to pass their California (CALE) and national board examinations (NCCAOM).
