Refining, Deepening, and Expanding GOT (TGO, AOB) in Theory and Practice
Course Overview
The General Osteopathic Treatment (GOT) is traditionally described as a sequence of mobilization techniques applied to the whole body. Introduced to most osteopaths during their basic training, it remains both – a foundation of osteopathic practice and a versatile tool for experienced clinicians. This course explores the rhythmic dimension of osteopathic treatment in depth. GOT will be presented as a powerful and structured approach for supporting and harmonizing biological rhythms.
Biological rhythms and the autonomic nervous system (ANS) are intrinsically linked: the ANS both follows rhythmic patterns (such as circadian heart rate variability) and stabilizes their expression. Chronic stress can significantly disrupt this interplay—leading to sympathetic overactivity, sleep disturbances, immune dysregulation and chronic fatigue states. GOT offers substantial potential for restoring this balance.
Here, GOT is approached not simply as a set of mobilization techniques, but as a maximalist treatment concept: the whole body is engaged in order to influence specific functions—reflecting a systemic osteopathic perspective. This rhythmic, whole-body stimulus can reorganize biological rhythms, modulate the ANS, and positively impact complex clinical conditions such as central sensitization or fibromyalgia.
Participants will deepen their practical and theoretical mastery of GOT, refine existing sequences, and learn to consciously shape the rhythmic quality of treatment. The course blends hands-on practice with a strong theoretical framework, with special emphasis on:
In the spirit of John Wernham, we will approach GOT not merely as a collection of techniques, but as a living expression of osteopathic philosophy.
This course is designed for osteopaths who wish to:
