As the twig is bent, the tree inclines A.T.Still
In today’s rapidly evolving world, understanding the development of children and adolescents is more important than ever. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to delve into the complex journey of growing up, from childhood through puberty, with a focus on how these changes impact health and well-being.
Participants will learn how to make careful, osteopathic differential diagnoses to ensure safe and effective treatment. They will explore the intricacies of anatomy, embryology, and physiology from early childhood to adolescence, gaining a comprehensive view of how these systems develop and interact.
The workshop emphasizes a holistic approach, integrating biological, psychological, emotional, and social factors to provide effective treatment strategies. Attendees will also learn the art of communication during the critical transitional phase of puberty, understanding how best to support adolescents’ health in the face of societal changes.
The Role of Osteopathy in Pediatrics: A Deep Dive
Osteopathy plays a pivotal role in pediatric health, from pregnancy through adolescence. This workshop offers a brief overview of the osteopathic approach to prenatal care and early childhood, focusing on the sensory experiences that shape development even before birth.
We’ll explore the foundational embryological forces that guide growth and development, providing essential insights into the practice of osteopathy. The contributions of neuroscience will be highlighted, demonstrating how understanding brain development can enhance osteopathic care.
As children grow, the workshop will address key developmental milestones, such as those seen at six years old and during early puberty. Participants will learn to apply a systemic approach to adolescent health, reflecting on how treatments can be tailored to each individual’s needs. This reflective practice allows practitioners to better articulate and understand the perceptions that guide their work, fostering a more effective and empathetic approach to care.
Comprehensive Program Overview
The workshop will cover the history of osteopathy in pediatric care, revisiting core principles and adapting them to suit children’s unique anatomical and physiological stages. Attendees will discuss the impact of early sensory information on development and explore how new birthing conditions in Europe, such as increased parental stress, premature births, and medical interventions, influence growth.
Key topics will include the osteopathic diagnosis of the craniosacral and postural systems, essential for supporting psychomotor development. The workshop will also examine the digestive system’s role in respiratory development, the effects of cranial compressions and birth trauma on the central nervous system, and the interconnections between the sternum, plexuses, and teeth during growth.
The importance of the hormonal and endocrine systems will be discussed, alongside the lasting impact of pediatric emotional memories. Finally, practical applications will be provided to address common adolescent behavioral issues, such as stress, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and concentration problems.
Join us for this comprehensive exploration of pediatric and adolescent osteopathy, where you’ll gain the knowledge and skills to support young people through the crucial stages of their development.
