Perinatal psychology and its influence on the body of the growing child with Terence Dowling DO
In this workshop we will explore the influence of early childhood experience – from conception onwards – upon later structure and functioning of the human person. This will include organic-physiological, depth psychological and also spiritual structure and functioning. It will focus not only on the effects of unexpected trauma but also on the effects of enduring environmental circumstances.
We will begin by looking at the effect of deprivation during prenatal life and how this affects tension in the pelvis and lumbar spine and especially in the psoas muscles. The relationship of postnatal experiences of deprivation to lower back pain, increased heart rate and high blood pressure will be explained.
Then we will look at the long-term effects of prenatal exposure to toxic substances. The effect this has upon the pelvis, the psoas muscles and heart rate and upon the general openness of a person to life-experiences will be explored. We will explore the effects of traumatic experiences in the womb: for example, the loss of a twin; survived miscarriage or abortion; prenatal bleeding; the effect of trauma to the mother – accidents, violence, illness and medical intervention.
We will look at the process of birth and how this experience can affect so much of later life. The course will involve regressive body work so that participants can experience personally the impact of these early experiences in their own life.
