Tissue-Based Structural Manipulation – “Lower Body”

Aeroparc Gilze-Rijen Koffie/thee, lunch & syllabus English

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Learn new manipulative techniques: direct techniques, without force, comfortable for the patient and without the use of lever arms
  • Enrich your manipulative practice with new concepts
  • Explore a different osteopathic concept
  • Improve precision in both technique and lesion assessment
  • Develop concepts of presence and perception that can be applied more broadly in osteopathic practice
  • Improve the quality of osteopathic care through both diagnosis and technique

PROGRAM

These three-day courses are designed to introduce participants to an original approach to structural manipulation: “Tissue-Based Structural Manipulation”. These techniques, this osteopathic concept and the accompanying teaching method have been developed by David Lachaize over more than 15 years and have been taught in many countries.

Depending on the module, different spinal and peripheral regions will be addressed.

Moving away from traditional manipulative techniques such as lumbar roll techniques, as well as from classical lesion definitions such as ERS and FRS, we will explore a different manipulative approach that is much closer to the tissue itself and to the reality of tissue dysfunction.

We will begin with anatomical and biomechanical concepts of the joints and gradually move towards more recent scientific perspectives, including “tissue architecture” and “biotensegrity”. In doing so, we progressively move closer to the reality of the tissue, changing the theoretical paradigm as well as our palpatory and perceptual frame of reference.

It is essential to recognise that, regardless of the technical approach used, including structural techniques, we are always working with living tissue and must take into account all the implications this brings. These techniques are comfortable, safe, extremely precise and require no muscular force. They can therefore be performed by practitioners of all physical builds.

They combine refined palpatory listening and local tissue analysis with structural thrust manipulation.

The courses are primarily practical.

Techniques will be repeated throughout the course in order to develop a high level of proficiency and to make the practical set-up increasingly automatic. We will also work beyond the purely technical aspects. Exercises will focus on positioning and perception, including grounding, presence, awareness of verticality and axis, and the energetic management of the thrust.

This work can therefore enrich all aspects of osteopathic practice, including structural, cranial and visceral approaches.

The schedule below is provided as a guideline. The pace may be adapted according to the dynamics and progress of the group, while ensuring that the full program is covered.

DAY 1

09:00 – 13:00

  • Introduction to the concept of “Tissue-Based Structural Manipulation”
  • Introduction to the theoretical and practical parameters:
    • Neurophysiology of manipulation
    • The concept of tissue dysfunction
    • Different manipulative techniques and their applications
    • Concepts of centre and verticality
    • Active tissue listening and tissue presence
    • Tissue communication
    • Balance and grounding
    • Thrust: definition, purpose and practical parameters

All theoretical aspects will be clearly explained so that everyone uses the same terminology and concepts throughout the course.

14:00 – 15:00

  • First approach to the lumbar region: L5
  • Step-by-step breakdown of the technique and practical positioning

15:00 – 16:00

  • Tissue tests for identifying dysfunctions in the lumbosacral region

16:00 – 17:30

  • Exercises focusing on the thrust

DAY 2

09:00 – 10:30

  • The sacrum: brief theory and practical work on S1, S2 and S3
  • Progression towards a more complex approach to the region using all relevant parameters

10:45 – 13:00

  • Lower thoracic region: T9 to T12

  • Posterior ilium

DAY 3

09:00 – 10:30

  • Review of testing and precise lesion analysis
  • General, regional, local and specific tests
  • Review of practical positioning for the lumbosacral region

10:45 – 13:00

  • Practical work on T12

14:00 – 16:30
